How the RecoPulse Index is calculated

The RecoPulse Index is a score from 0 to 100 that shows how visible your business is to AI assistants. It combines two things: how often AI recommends you when a customer asks for a business like yours (75% of the score), and how often AI knows you when asked about you by name (25%). It's based on real answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to questions your customers would ask.

Key takeaways

  • Index = 75% × how often you're recommended + 25% × how often you're known by name.
  • Being recommended counts most, because that's how new customers find you.
  • Answers an AI couldn't give (an outage, an error) don't count against you.
  • Re-checks use the same questions, so a change in the score reflects a change in how AI sees you.

What questions do we ask?

We ask AI assistants the questions real customers ask, in your business's language and with your industry and city filled in. There are two main kinds:

  • "Recommend me" questions, without your name: "What are the best bike repair shops in Kaunas?", "Which one would a local recommend?" Here the AI picks freely, so you compete on equal terms with everyone else.
  • Questions about you by name: "What is Dviračių remontas?", "Would you recommend Dviračių remontas?" These show whether the AI knows you and what it says about you.

One question, "What are some alternatives to [your business]?", asks for other businesses by design, so it doesn't count toward either part of the score. It's still shown in your report, because the competitors it names are useful to know.

How is the score calculated?

  • For every answer, we check whether your business is actually mentioned, and we keep the exact quote as evidence.
  • Recommended: the share of "recommend me" answers that name you. Named in 3 of 10 = 30%.
  • Known: the share of name questions where the AI knew you. Known in 8 of 10 = 80%.
  • Index = 75% × 30 + 25% × 80 = 22.5 + 20 = about 43.

If one kind of question gets no usable answers (for example, because an assistant was down), the other kind counts for the whole score, so an outage can't drag you down.

Why does being recommended count three times more?

With web search switched on, an AI can find almost any business that has a website once you give it the name. So being known by name says little on its own: most businesses score high there. What brings new customers is being named when someone asks for a recommendation and doesn't know you yet. That's the hardest part to earn, so it carries most of the weight.

How to read your score

  • 67-100, strong presence: AI recommends you confidently and often.
  • 34-66, getting noticed: AI knows you and recommends you some of the time.
  • 0-33, faint signal: AI rarely recommends you yet. This is where most small businesses start.

Your report also shows the mention rate: the share of all answers that mention you, of any kind. It's usually higher than the Index, because name questions are easier to "pass". Both numbers are true; the Index is the one that reflects new customers.

Why can my score differ between checks?

  • More questions and more assistants: the free check asks 2 questions to ChatGPT only, while a full report asks 10 or more questions across four assistants. The fuller picture is usually lower and more accurate.
  • AI answers vary from one try to the next, so small changes are normal. Look at the trend over several weekly checks.
  • Real changes: new reviews, website fixes or mentions on other sites can move your score up, and competitors' efforts can move it down.

What the Index doesn't measure

The Index is about visibility, not quality. It doesn't judge how good your business is, and it doesn't include what the AI says about you. That's shown separately as tone (positive, neutral, negative), with the exact quotes, so you can see both how often and how well you're described. No score can guarantee that an AI will recommend you; it shows where you stand and whether it's improving.
